2010 FAQs
(Please feel free to contact Nancy Dotson, Director of School Administration at ndotson@ccul.org if you don’t see an answer to your particular question)

Q: Will I have my own dorm room?
A:  Yes, all students have their own room, but the baths are shared.

Q:  Once I am registered, when will I receive detailed information about WCMS and the Pomona College campus?
A:  The first thing you will receive after you register, is a confirmation letter and forms to be completed and returned.

The second mailing you will receive is a package during the first week of June. Included will be information about the Pomona College campus, including a campus map, businesses and services in the nearby village of Claremont, CA., and things to do while in Southern California. There is also information on class events during WCMS 2010 and suggestions for what to pack.

Q: I understand that Ontario (ONT) airport is the closest airport to the Pomona College campus. Is there transportation to and from the airport/campus?
A: Yes. The WCMS Alumni Assn provides bus transportation from Ontario (ONT) airport to the Pomona College campus. (Approximately a 20-minute trip) Included with your confirmation letter is a form is for airport transportation, giving us your Airline, flight number, arrival and departure times, and your cell phone number, as the Alumni volunteers will be looking for you upon your arrival.

WCMS provides bus transportation back to the airport on the last day of school. (School concludes at noon, July 23rd)

Q: Where should I go once I arrive on campus?
A: Please report to Frank Dining Hall.  If arriving by bus from Ontario airport, you will be dropped off in front of Frank Dining Hall.  If you are driving, there is parking to the east of FDH.

Q: I understand Orientation takes place on Sunday afternoon, July 11th.  Do I need to attend?
A: Orientation is mandatory for all students.  Orientation for Year 1 students begins at 3:30 p.m.  Orientation for Year 2 & 3 students begins at 4:30 p.m. This is why it is suggested that you arrive on campus prior to noon, allowing time for lunch, registering and receiving your dorm key, having your picture taken for the WCMS 2010 yearbook, and moving your things into your room before Orientation.

Q: What is the schedule for the middle weekend of WCMS, beginning on Friday, July 16th?
A: Classes end at noon on Friday the 16th. You are free to do whatever you wish during the weekend, as long as you are in class at 8:00 a.m. on Monday morning, July 19th. Some students plan activities together (beach, Disneyland, etc) while staying on campus and others drive or fly home for the weekend. For those staying on campus, meals will be served. If you are flying out and returning during the weekend, you are responsible for your transportation to/from Ontario (ONT) Airport.

Q: When is graduation held?
A: Graduation will be held on Thursday evening, July 22nd.  The graduation dinner (for all students and guests of graduating students) begins at 6:00 p.m., commencement is at 8:00 p.m., and a reception for everyone follows at 9:15 p.m. This is the most special evening of the two weeks since it is the culmination of the graduates’ experience at the Western CUNA Management School. It is a joyful time, yet the event is formal and elegant. To preserve the dignity of the commencement exercises, we ask in advance that students work hard to minimize all distractions such as ringing cell phones, noisy children, balloons, etc.

Q: What kind of clothes should I bring to WCMS?
A: It can be quite warm in Claremont in July, so dress is very casual with shorts and sandals/tennis shoes appropriate.  Exception: You might want a light jacket with you for inside the classrooms.

There are two events where nicer summer clothes are suggested:  Philosophy night and reception (mandatory for all students, held the first Wednesday night) and graduation.  ‘Nice’ for men would be dress slacks, with light summer shirt, (some wear ties to commencement & philosophy night) and pants/skirt/lightweight top or a summer dress for ladies.

Q: Where can items be sent from my CU to me at campus?
A: Please have mail sent to your attention, Western CUNA Management School, c/o Pomona College, 101 N. College Way, Claremont, CA  91711.  No packages please.

Q: Is there a nearby hotel for friends and family coming for the graduation activities?
A: The Doubletree Hotel Claremont is one mile north of the Pomona College campus:
     555 W. Foothill Blvd.
     Claremont, CA  91711
     Phone: 909/626-2411

Q: What is the schedule on the last day of school?
A: Classes end at noon on Friday July 23rd.  (Graduating Thetas have completed WCMS after commencement, Thursday evening, July 22nd)
