3:30 – 4:45 BREAKOUT SESSION 1

Managing with the Generations in Mind & Heart

As WCMS celebrates its half-century of leaders, it also seems an appropriate time to examine the generations that shape the Credit Union workplace Traditionalist, Boomers, Xers and Gen Y's - for the first time in history four generations populate the workplace. Each generation is enculturated to its own 'version' of rewards, accountability, commitment, values and work ethic. And, these different perspectives can cause combustible clashes, or constructive connections. Harry would love to visit with you again and to explore what it means to manage, measure, and motivate across the generations and why - now - it's vital to manage with generations in mind and heart.

Size Matters: What Shakespeare Tells Us About the True Measure of Men and Women Who Lead

In Henry V, a play you will recall from our WCMS sessions together, Shakespeare's young king rallies his stricken, outnumbered soldiers before the Battle of Agincourt with the phrase, "we happy few." What can he mean? How, in the face of such odds, in reckoning the vastly superior size and strength of the adversary, can "few" be happy? How can smaller be better? Shakespeare inspires us to reconsider what really counts when we face daunting challenges and seeming insurmountable obstacles in any domain of life, especially during a time of diminished resources and fierce competition.
